McKensi began studying dance at age three at Charisma School of Dance. By age six she became a competitive dancer in the styles of ballet, lyrical, jazz, tap, and hip hop. By age ten she became a teacher’s assistant in various styles helping wherever she could. By age fourteen she was instructing her own classes and private lessons. Dance has always been her passion and continues to be as she enjoys her classes and students. Throughout her dance career, she has participated in many community performances at the state fair and nursing homes, for example, and many studio recitals in which she was given awards such as “Studio Helper” and a scholarship for one year.
Over the years, she has been to many competitions in which she earned various awards such as judge’s choice, overalls, etc. In January of 2014 she won the “All Star Dance Experience” in New York City from Rainbow Dance Connection competition. She attended this in July of 2014 where she had the opportunity to study with the Radio City Music Hall Rockettes, enjoy Broadway shows, study with famous choreographers, and so much more.
Aside from dance, she stays committed to her academics and gaining life experiences. In 2012 she participated in a student-exchange program in South Korea and has participated in church servant projects in San Antonio, TX and New Orleans, LA. In her free time, she loves to spend time with her family and her Dachshund, Edison (“Eddie”) who has so much personality.
After graduating high school and Running Start with her Associate’s degree in 2017, she is now attending Pacific Lutheran University (PLU) where she is pursuing a Bachelor’s of Arts in Psychology. Her goal is to utilize her dance and life experiences to teach her students, especially all that she has learned from Erin Fay-Montalvo from whom her dance education stems from.
