Where is the rehearsal and recital?
The rehearsal and recital are both held at:
Mt. Tahoma High School
4634 S. 74th St. Tacoma, 98409

How does the rehearsal work?
The rehearsal starts at 5:00 on Friday, June 22nd. The dancers should be sitting in the auditorium by 4:45. At 5:00 the dancers will be called up to the stage to start a group warm up.
After the warm up we will run the finale. The finale includes all the dancers in the show.
After finale rehearsal is finished, the dancers will return to their seats and be called up by class to practice. We start with our little ones first and work our way up to our older dancers.
Please be patient, we work with the tech crew from Mt. Tahoma and sometimes we need to wait a few minutes for them to fix a technical issue.
During down time, you can eat and drink in the cafeteria area. We are not allowed to have food or drink in the auditorium.
Dancers DO NOT wear their costumes to the rehearsal. Please wear your regular dance attire. We do not want to chance losing any parts of costumes.

When are class and individual photos taken?
Picture week is June 14th – 20th during their regularly scheduled classes. Please come to class ready for pictures (hair, makeup, and in costume). We ask that you attend pictures even if you are not ordering as we take a class photo. We will also practice our routines in our costumes to make sure we don’t have any costume malfunctions.

What time should my dancer check in at the recital?
Dancers should be in their dressing room by 4:15. There is a room monitor so the students will have an adult in the room with them. We will be playing a child friendly movie for the dancers. Please do not send any electronics or anything valuable with your dancer
.

After my child dances are we able to leave?
All of the dancers are in the finale at the end of the show. It is a lot of fun and we don’t want our dancers to miss it.

What time does the house open?
The house will open at 4:30. If you are early, they have seats in the cafeteria to rest until the house is open.

Do you sell tickets at the door?
Yes we do. They are $20.00 and we accept cash, checks, and credit cards.

Are we allowed to take pictures or video the show?
You are allowed to take pictures during the rehearsal and show. We ask that they do not have a flash because it can blind the dancers while dancing.
You are allowed to video the rehearsal, but not the recital. We have Eric Paine, our Charisma videographer, who will be recording our show and will have order forms at the recital.

How do we get our videos from the recital?
Mr. Paine can send them to your house or he will bring them to the studio for pick up. When the D.V.D.’s are delivered it will be announced on the studio Facebook. He does many of the recitals in Western Washington so it will be a week to three weeks before the videos are available.

How do we get our pictures from picture week at Charisma?
Pictures will be available the last week in August and can be picked up at Charisma. During that time you can also pick up a fall schedule and register your dancer(s).

Do you offer flowers for purchase at the recital?
Yes we do! Brown’s flowers will be setting up a flower booth, but if you would like to pre-order a bouquet to pick up at the recital, please call 253.472.3361.

How long is the show?
The show is between 2 to 2 ½ hours. We have a 30 minute intermission where you can purchase goodies from our bake sale or purchase raffle tickets for “Split the Pot.” The raffle winner will be announced at the end of the recital. This is also a good time to take your little one to the bathroom. You will need to let the room monitor know that you are taking your little one so she can account for all of the dancers.

How does my child wear their hair for their performance?
The hair style should be in “The Book” if not, the teacher will also go over the hair style. Please remember that no matter what the hair style is that there should be no loose hair. If it is a ponytail, the hair should be slicked back with gel and hairspray. Bobby pins and clips are important. Please make sure that all bobby pins and clips are in your child’s hair color. No pinks, blues, purple, etc. Hair nets that match your child’s hair are very helpful with ballet buns. You do not want to wear a material or knitted bun cover.Bangs should always be back.

What is the make up needed for the recital?
Pink blush, brown eyeshadow, black eyeliner, mascara or false eyelashes. The lipstick should be a long lasting red. It is recommended to use a long wearing lipstick that doesn’t come off easily that way it doesn’t rub off on your costume while changing. Please also darken eyebrows if your eyebrows are light.

I am new to this, is there anyone that can help me with make up and hair?
Picture week is a great time to practice. We have wonderful parents and dancers that are always happy to help out.

Why do we need to steam our costumes?
Not all costumes will need to be steamed. Usually ballet and lyrical costumes will need some steaming because they get wrinkles in the costume bag that they arrive in. Charisma has a steamer that you are welcome to use. If you need help, just let us know and we will assist you.

Are we allowed to wear jewelry?
Jewelry can get in the way of our dancing, so we ask that no earrings, necklaces, bracelets, or ankle bracelets are worn. If you have new earrings that cannot come out, please put a small piece of tape over them to protect them during the performance.

Are we allowed to wear nail polish?
You may wear clear nail polish or if you have fake nails a French manicure is fine. We are trying to all look uniform onstage and nail color distracts the eye.

Do we wear underwear on stage?
No. Just tights and your costume. Underwear shows on stage and looks baggy under your costume. If your dancer is young as is in pull ups then they can wear their pull ups. We don’t want any accidents on stage. Please make sure that any bras or undergarments are not visible. If you need help, please let your instructor know and they will show you some tricks to the hide straps.

After the recital do we go back to our regular dance schedule?
The recital marks the end of the year. We do offer a summer course in the month of July and August. That schedule is on our website at www.charismaschoolofdance.
com. In August we will have the fall schedule and that will also be on our website.

What tights and shoes do we wear?
That should also be in “The Book” if not, the teacher will be going over it with the parents.
Charisma has a boutique where you can buy child pink tights and adult pink and tan. The boutique also has ballet slippers, tap shoes, and some jazz shoes.

If you need child tan tights, the best place is The Dance Collection in Tacoma. They have a whole selection of tights and dance shoes. The address is 4854 S. Adams. The phone number is 253.471.4225. They have certain days and hours that they are open so it is good to call before you make the trip out.
Payless Shoe Source also has ballet slippers and tap shoes for little ones.

What if I accidentally leave something behind at the recital?
Check our Lost and Found at the studio! We bring all things we find back to the studio.

Please let us know if you have any questions. We are really excited to see our dancers in action this month! They have worked so hard and all of the teachers are so proud of them!
